Weather balloons are used to provide profiles of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, and wind velocity. There are more than 700 launching sites worldwide for weather balloons. The rubber balloons are inflated with either helium or hydrogen to a 2m diameter. Every balloon has a package with instruments attached to it.
1. I think that weather balloons have not become obsolete because of the amount of information they recover, and also they're experiencing the weather where as satellites do little more than float ins pace taking pictures.
2. To understand the amount of pressure that is inside of the weather balloons when they are released.
