October 31,1835, Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Adolf von Baeyer was born in Berlin, Germany. He was born into a family that was well known with science. His father was a lieutenant-general and he developed the European system of geodetic measurment. Even when Adolf von Baeyer was little he was very interested in science and at the age of 12 he discovered a new double salt of copper.
In college he studied mathematics and physics his first couple years, but then he changed and started studying chemistry. He attended the University of Berlin. He studied methyl chloride. In 1958 he got his doctorate working on cacodyl. Over his years at the university, he studied many chemicals. He was always open-minded, even in his old age. He formed a school from which 50 university teachers came from. He won a Nobel Prize in 1905.
In 1868, Adolf von Baeyer got married to Adelheid Bendemenn. Together they had three children, a daughter who married a chemist, and two sons, both who became university lecturers.
Adolf died in his country home on August 20,1917 of a seizure.
