Roy J. Plunkett was born June 26, 1910 in Ohio. He is best known for dicovering tetrafluoroethylene resin, also known as Teflon. After recieving his degree he took a job with DuPont Laboratories. In 1937 he discovered a waxy substance during a failed experiment. It turned out to be one of the most slippery materials known to man. Later it was trademarked as Teflon. Today, Teflon is most widely used a non-stick coating for cookware.
