Dr. William A. "Bill" Mitchell (1911-2004)
He was an american food chemist who invented pop rocks, tang, and kool whip, quick-set Jell-O, and powdered egg whites. He was working for General Food Corporation between 1941 and 1976. His most famous invention was pop rocks. In 1956, Mitchell, while trying to design an instant soft drink, put some sugar flavoring mixed with carbon dioxide in his mouth. BOOM! Pop Rocks! While working briefly for Eastman Kodak Company, he helped design a chemical process to develop the color green also. He died at age 92.
