Weather balloons are used all over the world to collect data. Some of the data that it collects is: temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed in the upper atmosphere. These balloons are elevated by putting either helium or hydrogen into them which makes them rise because the hydrogen and helium is lighter than the air around it. If they do not get high enough then the readings will not be correct. These weather balloons are better in some scientists opinions than satellites are. This is because satellites are much farther away, get less accurate readings, and are very expensive. The united has 70 out of 700 spots where weather balloons are released around the world.

2. If they did not understand the gas laws then they would not understand that the gas in the balloon has to be lighter than the air around it in order for it to float away.
