#1- there's some things that weather balloons can pick up that satellites can't pick up, so weather balloons won't be obsolete for some time.
#2- meteorologists need to understand gas so that they know what gasses are lighter than the air around the balloon, and how long it will stay up in the air.

A Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) chamber is a device that compresses the air to 3 atm of pressure and is only filled with pure oxygen. These devices have been used since the 1940's. Back then they were used to treat divers in the Navy who suffered from decompression sickness. Since then, we have found many other beneficial medical uses for the HBO treatment.
One way that we use HBO today is in treating injuries of athletes. The Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Jets all have bought their very own Hyberbaric Oxygen Chamber for use of their players. If an athlete gets injured, they just send them to the chamber for a certain amount of 1 hour sessions. The player puts on a mask, so that they can breathe in the pure oxygen and the pressure and pure oxygen help the injury by reducing swelling and increasing blood flow. Thus, the HBO can make an injury that would last for weeks, only last a few days.
Another way that we use the HBO today is in the medical field. HBO therapy, along with clot-dissolving drugs, is being used today as an effective treatment for patients suffering from heart attacks. The therapy helps save the heart muscle and reduce the pain of the patient sufficiently. It has been proven that on average, heart attack patients who take part in HBO therapy in addition to their other heart drugs experience over 50% less pain.
Possibly the most important use of the Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber is for babies born with hyaline-membrane disease. Hyaline-membrane disease occurs in premature babies that have underdeveloped lungs. They suffer from respitory distress because the alveoli in their lungs fail to inflate properly. Sessions in the HBO have been proven to have a higher success rate in proper developement after birth. The chambers help the lungs to develop and inflate properly.
Obviously, the technology of HBO chambers only bring beneficial things to us.

1.Satellites aren't exact because they are to far out into space and weather balloons are right in the sky.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers also known as 'HBO' is great for sick people. They have been in use since 1940's. They were first used by the Navy to treat divers with decompression sickness. In the last 20 years, researchers have shown that HBO treatments have many medical applications. Some sports teams have started using HBO treatment for injured players. HBO's help speed up the healing process by speeding up blood flow. HBO's are also used for people with heart conditions and premature babies.

Weather Balloons are used to provide the data for the country's weather forecasts. These devices have been used since World War II to provide temperature, pressure, relative humidity, and wind velocity profiles in the upper atmosphere. there are 70 launching sites in the U.S. and more than 700 in the world. Balloons are released at the same time in all countries at 6:00 and 18:00 hours GMT. Data from allover the world reach the U.S. via a central computer in Maryland. From there, the data is then sent to regional weather service stations throughout the country to be put into newspapers and television and radio networks.
The rubber balloons are inflated with either helium or hydrogen to a diameter of about 2m. They becaome buoyant because the density of either gas is less than the density of air. An instrument package is attached to each balloon by a 15-m cord. As the pressure in the atmosphere decreases, the gas inside the balloon expands, making the balloon go higher.
When it reaches 30km, the volume of the gas is so great the balloon bursts. a parachute carries the package containing the radio transmitter and measuring instruments safely to the ground.

There are more then 700 sites around the world. They are released at the same time in all countries; at 6:00 and 18:00 hourse Greenwich Mean Time. The balloons are used to provide scientists data that is used in the country's eather forcasts. They provide imformation about temperature, pressure, relative humidity and wind velocity. All the data from other countries is sent to a central computer in Maryland.
The balloons are filled with helium or hydrogen. An insterment is attached to the balloon. When the ballon reaches a height of 30 km, the ballon bursts and the measuring insterments are carried via parachute to the ground.

Weather satellites can only do so much. Weather balloons have been here for awhile and are still doing their job. They are sent up in the air to collect the weather pressure and what not. They are still needed to collect certain kinds of data.
2. You wouldn't want to put to much gas into the balloon or things might not work properly. Or if you some how built somthing that would react with the gas you have to know the laws so you dont screw up.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers
These chambers have been used since the 1940's. They were once used to treat divers with decompression sickness. Over many years these HBO chambers have shown to be useful in much more. They can be used to heal bone and muscle injuries. With sports injuries it compresses the air to 3 atm of pressure around the injured player. They are breathing pure oxygen through a mask. The higher air pressure forces more oxygen to dissolve in the bloodstream, speeding up the flow of oxygen. This helps with swelling by reducing it. it helps heal it.
It can also be used to help people who have suffered heart attacks. Patients who had HBO therapy experienced pain for less time. There heart also returns to normal functions faster.
